About

Hi, I’m Mayes — pediatric  Occupational Therapist, and Coach working virtually with families, and (most importantly) a parent myself. I’m registered to provide virtual occupational therapy services across most of Canada, with additional authorization in place where required.

For more than 30 years, working with children and families across continents, I’ve learned something that the systems around kids often miss: they’re built to support the child — and they frequently forget the parents, teachers, and other caregivers holding everything together alongside them. That gap is a big part of why I do this work the way I do.

I have deep compassion for caregivers — earned through decades alongside parents and teachers, and through being a working parent myself, juggling many roles. That juggling act is what first led me to yoga, breathwork, and meditation — tools I still lean on, and influence client relationships

Along the way, I’ve also learned from a wonderful community of fellow therapists – Speech and Language Pathologists, Physiotherapists, educators, and Pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, across the fields that surround this work. That ongoing learning led me into post-graduate studies in Sensory Integration Therapy, emotional regulation, executive functioning, ADHD, and autism.

But the credentials are just the toolbox. The real magic happens in the small moments:

  • The spark of calm and alertness in a little one after some movement and deep pressure
  • The quiet, private triumph of a child putting on their own jacket
  • A parent texting me, thrilled, because their little one tried a new food for the first time
  • A teenager navigating an eating disorder, helping cook dinner for their family — for the first time ever
  • A message, years later, from a parent whose child I treated at eight years old… now graduating university

These are the moments I get to witness. They’re why I do this work, and they never stop feeling like a privilege.
I’m deeply grateful to the many teachers and mentors who’ve shaped this path — especially to Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

When I’m not practicing occupational therapy, you’ll probably find me teaching and practicing meditation and yoga , hiking, spending time with family and friends, travelling or out in nature.
